This is my 2nd project with Black Diamond Project Designer Steve Turner and he has delivered again! For this project he’s transformed our back and side yard from dirt, weeds, and catastrophic drainage to an absolute oasis. There were some delays and hiccups during the project but that's life in general and it happens. If you don't expect to encounter any challenges on any large project then you aren't being realistic. But Steve will always guide you on how to resolve any situation with multiple options and he will update you every step of the way. Steve is very knowledgeable and trustworthy. His goal is to have the project last a lifetime; not just to make a quick sale. I trust his input 100% on any landscaping matter and that is coming from a person who just doesn't trust anybody.

In July 2022, we had our driveway paved by Black Diamond Paver Stones & Landscape. We are very pleased with the result. Our project manager, Steve Turner, was very responsive and oversaw the work everyday.  He was in frequent communication with us and gave us daily progress reports.

The crew was very diligent and competent.  They successfully navigated around underground pipes and unforeseen obstacles, and irregular corners. We were amazed at their coordinated workflow and professional skill.



This is my second review of Black Diamond Paver Stones & Landscape. We had our driveway paved with this company two weeks ago (July 2022) and several days ago we informed them that a modification to the pavers on our steep driveway was needed. Steve Turner, who managed our project, responded very quickly and the crew (Andreina and Wilmer's team) completed the modifications without delay. Steve Turner and Black Diamond's customer care and field support experts handled our entire project with exemplary competence and always responded when we contacted them or had questions. I admire the way that Steve handled our project and the way he maintained contact with us and followed up without exception.

We are pleased with the craftsmanship of the Black Diamond crew run by Andreina Serrano, and the fact that our coordinator Jaz Mascorro got the project cleaned and cleared in time for our deadline. Steve Turner (650) 732-1659 was our designer and on-site manager. His design gave us so much more usable space and looked gorgeous, with natural stone, pavers, lighting, soft synthetic lawn and river rocks. Steve stayed very involved, and was very hands on, before starting the project, he removed most of the weed in the back yard, he also painted the interior of the planter himself, until the end to get the extra pallets that were parked in front of our garage removed and assured that the crew was able to be productive. Not everything went according to plan. For example, the stone on the wall was out of stock, so we needed to work together to choose what was available. Steve communicated very promptly and kept us in the loop whenever something requires our attention. At the beginning of the project, the workers in the neighborhood wanted the crew to get out of their way. But we worked together and everything was resolved to our satisfaction. At the end we were very pleased with the project, excellent!

Our parking area was being destroyed not so slowly by the roots of a tree. Concrete was not able to handle the pressure. We wanted a solution, and Black Diamond installed a root barrier with paver stones that look so pretty. I am really happy with the Catalina Grana color Victorian and the craftsmanship of Andreina Serrano's crew. They worked hard and were polite. The coordinator Jaz Mascorro made sure things got done. and designer/field manager Steve Turner visited the project every day and made sure we were kept informed. Black Diamond finished within the budget and timeframe we agreed upon. They did make a mistake in getting the wrong color delivered, but they proactively fixed it. Then, we noticed there was a low spot after we paid the final invoice. The crew came back and fixed it a day a later. Highly recommended, as they really are experts in pavers! 

I've done two successful and extensive projects so far with Black Diamond. The design phases started very quickly. After the initial plans were ready, both took a while to start, understandably due to availability of crews and materials. With these projects, you can expect various challenges to come up, like the heavy rains that we got this past December. However, over all our experience had us constantly counting our blessings that we went with Black Diamond. I first hired Black Diamond to install paver stones on our driveway in 2020. It is steep and replacing concrete on a hillside was complicated. Designer Steve Turner (650) 732-1659 brought in experts from the company to evaluate the best options to keep it safe and secure. He was always consulting with me and their experts, to make sure the project was done right. There were so many factors to consider, and Steve did an amazing job of proposing multiple options to fit our budget, functional/structural needs, and desire for aesthetic/visual details. I was happy with the result, so hired Black Diamond in 2021 to redo the rest of the property, including walkways, retaining walls, patios, and multiple stairs around the house. This was even more complicated because of the steep hill that my house is built on, but I am really happy with how much usable space we have now.

From a design perspective, Steve paid close attention to so many details and guided us through every step of the way. From the choice of pavers to the layouts of our new patios and colors of our walls, Steve personally oversaw every detail and made sure that we'd be happy in every possible regard. He worked closely with Andreina Serrano's crew to produce an environment that I am proud to invite friends to spend time to relax with our family. In fact on both projects, Black Diamond brought in top notch crews to perform the work. All crews, from material delivery to demolition to painting to installation to cleanup - were friendly, professional, and detail oriented. These were people that we felt completely comfortable having at our home, and they all went above and beyond to make sure we were happy with the results.

Just finished adding new roof, railings, windows, siding, insulation, paint and driveway to our 1950 vintage worn out house in San Mateo. Steve Turner gave me the design idea for the Belgard paver driveway and drainage. The driveway was the final piece and added the right color and finish to the project. Steve had Belgard look over the pavers and recommend the mix and the crew got the work done in three and a half days - working through the drainage issue with great expertise. I recommend Steve and Black Diamond for you project and I recommend Tapia roofing, Peninsula Siding for Hardie fiber cement siding and for insulation, Renewal by Andersen for windows.

This review is about my landscape designer, Steve Turner (650) 732-1659. He worked closely with me to create an amazing and beautiful garden. There are plenty of gardeners and who can install grass and irrigation, even make suggestions for shrubs and flowers. I wanted to replace my grass and have a complete transformation of my front yard to something I had always dreamed of. That required a trusted advisor and designer who was willing to listen to me and provide options and recommendations based on my preferences. In my opinion, a client should never just ask for a "quote" without seeing a design that reflects their needs. Steve gave me an amazing 3D rendering, but the actual garden far exceeded my expectations. I am confident in saying he is one of the premier designers in the Bay Area. Steve is creative, persistent, patient, and not afraid to get hands-on. I had a long wait for all the materials and crew, but when it was installed, I felt it was worth the wait. It was also not inexpensive, but worth every penny.

I worked with the designer Steve T. from Black Diamond Paver Stones and Landscape. Steve was very knowledgeable and provided us a design that fits our needs. We completed our paver stone project on time and within budget. I recommend working with them in the winter because all landscape contractors are really busy in the summer. Jaz was our coordinator. Abner was the crew foreman and I am happy with their workmanship.

We started our project by contacting 4 companies with only 2 of them responding to our request. We then decided to go with Black Diamond based off of the professionalism they showed on our first consultation. Nobody else offers a 27-year warranty or has such an impressive track record. Our designer and project manager Steve Turner listened to us and worked with us to select the right color and pattern for our driveway, porch, and planter box. Steve redesigned the plan a few times and presented a three-dimensional image of what it would look like, and we knew it was right for us. He stayed very involved, working with the foremen Flavio for demolition and Jorge for installation. Jorge's crew was fast and clean. They stayed within budget and Steve was responsive to all my questions throughout. We recommend Black Diamond for your project.

There have been challenges with this project for sure, but in the end I'd give 6 stars if I could. I can't say I was happy to wait eight months to get my project started. It took four months to receive approval from my city, my HOA, and my neighbor to start the project. They insisted on many conditions, which seemed almost impossible to satisfy. I waited another four months to get a crew assigned. Jose Perez was the foreman and his crew were worth the wait. Black Diamond's level of craftsmanship was amazing and inspiring. They did things with paver stones that I didn't know were possible. Jose's crew also paid attention to all the special conditions placed on my project and went way beyond my expectations to accommodate my neighbor and the HOA.

The crew took tremendous pride in their work and in their care for my property. With so many details, I now understand that each project has unpredictable things that need to be done, which can take longer than expected. My home had a spigot that was not standard, and irrigation took quite a bit of time to get everything to work properly. The location and type of electrical outlets also made it more difficult. The property has a deck that is low to the ground and difficult to get wires and pipe under the joists. I also did not realize how much logistical planning goes into getting everything on-site and off-site and how many suppliers are involved. When the time came, coordinator Columba Gutierrez focused on what needed to happen. The designer Steve Turner worked really well with the crew and kept me informed about what to expect next. He warned me at the beginning how challenging this would be, but he also gave me a beautiful three-dimensional rendering that looked exactly like what I wanted. I cannot believe that the finished project looks even better than the rendering! Steve stayed involved from start to finish and was willing to do what was needed to get it done right. I can say I am very happy now to have a yard that I will truly enjoy for the rest of my life. So between Steve, Jose and his crew, and Columba, this team of dedicated and caring professionals do deserve a 6-star review.

We had a great experience working with Black Diamond on our backyard remodel. We spoke with several hardscaping firms and chose to work with Black Diamond because we were so impressed with the designer, Steve. He took the time to really understand what we wanted done. He spent a lot of time taking meticulous measurements so that the initial design and quote would be as accurate as possible. He also brought up a lot of concerns that the other contractors did not even mention to us, such as that we would need to re-grade the slope to make sure it drained away from the house. He was also super accommodating when we made changes to the plan, which we did a few times (including one last-minute change that we made after demolition had started). And whenever unforeseen things came up and we needed to make changes, he went through the cost breakdown with us so that we understood all of our options and how much each option would add to the total cost. Most importantly, the end result is absolutely beautiful. I will not hesitate to work with Steve and Black Diamond again when we are able to do the front yard in a few years!

Black Diamond's crew (which is run by Andreina and Wilmer) just left. They changed our front yard from being old cracked cement and sad bushes into something that is attractive and easy to maintain. Paver stones look great with our house, and careful sloping helps with drainage. Columba Gutierrez and Steve Turner (He is the best!!) coordinated and managed the project. Steve listened to what we wanted from start to finish and also designed the project and developed beautiful drawings. He was responsible with the budget and paid close attention to every design detail from bronzing the drainage grate and arranging beautiful polished pebbles to recommending the plants. Devil Mountain Nursery took longer than expected and kept delaying the delivery. The plants are smaller than we were expecting, but it is still Winter. The nursery was our only disappointment. But the crew went and got the plants to make sure we would not need to wait any longer to get our dream front yard. Steve and crew made it all work. Thanks, Black Diamond.

Steve Turner did a great job designing and organizing our project and we are receiving many compliments on the design while enjoying the function. Steve came out many times to ensure the project was going smoothly and even tarped the paver pallets. The backend office coordination had communication challenges but Steve stepped in and sorted the problems out. The install team were excellent!! Ernesto moves quickly and has a great design eye to achieve our vision. We didn't want a square slab and Ernesto added curves to make it more appealing. The cost was very fair. We are very pleased customers.

I was very pleased with BD. Steve, who was our project manager, did an excellent job all the way through. Steve was very committed to seeing the work get done, he was very knowledgeable about the product and was attentive to the needs and concerns of the customer. In addition, not only was the service great, but the craftsmanship and final product were of top quality. I definitely would recommend this company.

I'd like to speak on my recent experience with Steve. Steve is a gentleman, a professional, and a specialist like no other I've met. He visited with us to discuss our yard and possible solutions for our erosion problems (we live beside a creek). He didn't rush us and was extra patient as he explained possibilities and asked us important, thought-provoking questions. Black Diamond recently finished our backyard project. We were looking to eliminate mud and places for our dog to dig in the rainy months. I found them on Yelp and Steve Turner (designer) came to our house and came up with a design within our budget and more functional and attractive than we had envisioned. Steve is very professional and easy to work with and made sure we were happy with the project the entire way through, he knew we had a budget and completed part of the demo and finish work himself and delivered some recycled blocks to shore up a retaining wall that was not within the initial scope of the project. Once the crew was available the project moved quickly and was completed ahead of the estimated finish time (Demo foreman Flavio and Installed by Augustin's crew - very professional). We were very impressed with the cleanliness throughout the entire project. From beginning to end we felt Steve wanted to ensure we were happy with the process, progress and finished project. We love our new yard!!

Steve Turner, designer, was able to transform dangerous stairs up to the front walkway of my 1912 Craftsman home into the front lawn of my dreams.  Andreina Serrano's crew was outstanding. Every measurement taken was exact - the paver cutting and alignment was prefect - I couldn't be happier. The new stairs curve in a style compatible with my home's era.  I was a little worried about blending modern pavers and stonework with my house, but it turned out beautifully. I had always wanted to replace my weedy lawn with artificial turf (hey, don't judge me - people swear by artificial Christmas trees) and it is beyond gorgeous! You actually have to look twice to see that it isn't real grass.  No more mowing or water bills for me!  Steve recommended drought resistant perennials which lend themselves to the era of my home.  In fact the whole project is so pretty I'm forced to spruce up the interior!  I HIGHLY suggest Black Diamond for your landscape/paver needs. The crew left the job spotless and all work was completed in a timely fashion with little to no hassles for me or the neighbors.

I was initially planning to do a concrete retaining wall in my backyard thinking that it was the most cost effective compare to segmented walls. After meeting with Steve Turner project designer for Black Diamond I found out that segmented walls are actually cheaper due to less labor cost. I received multiple estimates but I was very impress with Steve Turner attention to detail, presentation, knowledge, professionalism, pressure free, patience, and work ethic. Steve worked with our budget and always picked up our daily annoying phone calls. There was a little bump on the initial phase of the project when the initial crew didn't follow Steve's design and wasn't living up to the Black Diamond standard which caused some stress. Steve Turner/Black Diamond worked very to remedy the situation and gained back our trust/confidence which was deeply appreciated. Steve Turner/Black Diamond assigned us a new crew and her crew was excellent. The crew's attention to detail was impressive. Her team surgically face transplant my backyard into a model backyard. Steve Turner will literally see your project from beginning to end to make sure it's done right and he will do whatever it takes to make sure the customer demand are met. (dig dirt, demands that the crew cleans up, talk to you neighbors if they have some concern about your project). I am very happy with my backyard and already thinking about my front and side yard project with Black Diamond. They are very affordable high-quality company.

I'm giving the review or Black Diamond for meeting the attention to quality and detail for my driveway Paving project. I went through 3 different price quotes before I selected them but what made me choose them was seeing how my sales rep Steve had went out of his way from the beginning to show he would be on top of the project. The others seemed like they wanted to say they were the best but Steve really went out the way to show that. The company seems well run and organized, very out of the ordinary for contractor type providers. The crew that came to do the work was also organized and friendly. Last but most important was the final job was like perfect, I couldn’t ask for more. We decided to put pavers in our driveway because of a sloping issue, and that was one of the criteria on our agreement Steve had guaranteed we will get the slope we want. And sure enough the job was done. I would recommend again since you get the best value from these guys.
